Shahzad I. Mian, M.D.
Dr. Mian's ophthalmological specialties include corneal transplantation, cataract and refractive surgery (LASIK, IntraLASIK, LASEK, PRK, CK), treatment of diseases and infections of the cornea, amniotic membrane grafts and limbal stem cell transplantation. His research interests include clinical studies in refractive surgery techniques and outcomes, corneal infections and dry eye disease. A 1996 graduate of Emory University, Mian completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Wills Eye Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University, in 2000. He completed a fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard University, in 2002.
Roni Shtein, M.D., M.S.
Dr. Shtein attended medical school at Brown University, then completed her ophthalmology residency and Corneal and External Diseases Fellowship at the University of Michigan. Her specialty interests include comprehensive eye care, corneal transplantation, cataract and refractive surgery, clinical confocal microscopy, dry eye and ocular surface disease, medical and surgical management of corneal and conjunctival disorders and corneal involvement in systemic diseases. As a researcher, she focuses on clinical patient-oriented research on high-risk corneal transplantation, clinical confocal microscopy, dry eye and ocular surface disease, corneal immunology, refractive surgery techniques and outcomes. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Michigan.
H. Kaz Soong, M.D.
Dr. Soong is a graduate of the Columbia University Medical School and did his residency in ophthalmology at Johns Hopkins University. He completed a fellowship in Cornea and External Diseases at Harvard University. Dr. Soong also has a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Cornell University. He is currently a Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Michigan. His specialty interests include corneal and conjunctival diseases, high-risk cornea transplants, posterior (deep) lamellar keratoplasty, LASIK, PRK and refractive surgery.
Alan Sugar, M.D.
In addition to volunteering his time as a Medical Director for Eversight Michigan, Dr. Sugar is also on Eversight’s Board of Directors. Sugar's areas of specialization include corneal transplantation, cataract and refractive surgery (LASIK, PRK, Intacs, conductive keratoplasty) and management of diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva. He graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1969, then completed his residency in ophthalmology at Washington University in St. Louis in 1974. He completed his fellowship in Cornea and External Diseases at the University of Florida in 1975.
Maria A. Woodward, M.D.
Dr. Woodward attended medical school at Columbia University, then completed her ophthalmology residency and Cornea, External Disease and Refractive Surgery Fellowship at Emory University. Her specialty interests include comprehensive eye care, cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, refractive surgery, medical and surgical management of anterior segment diseases, corneal infections and corneal dystrophies. As a researcher, she focuses on telemedicine for anterior eye disease and corneal transplantation and eye banking. She is currently an assistant professor at the University of Michiganís Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.
