Transplant Games coming to Cleveland in 2016!
The Donate Life Transplant Games of America celebrate the gift of donation and offer opportunities for eye, tissue and organ recipients to compete in a variety of activities – from athletic endeavors to brain battles. Recipients can earn medals in events such as ballroom dancing, volleyball, trivia, Texas Hold-Em poker and more.
Held every two years, the Games also offer an array of non-competitive opportunities for donor family members and families of transplant recipients to participate, including a 5k (which is open to the public), opening and closing ceremonies and a donor tribute ceremony.
The 2016 Games mark the second time cornea transplant recipients are invited to participate, and we hope to have a strong showing on Team Ohio!
“The Games in Cleveland give us an unprecedented opportunity to share the message of donation with our community,” said Debbie May-Johnson, Executive Director, Eversight Ohio.
“As a spectator of several of the national and international Games in the past, I know the impact the Games can have in making members of the local community and people nationwide aware of the precious gifts of life and sight.”
Thousands of transplant recipients and donor family members from around the country are expected to converge on Cleveland June 10-15, 2016. More than 5,900 people participated in Houston in 2014.
