ANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 29, 2021 — The Superior Health Foundation has awarded Eversight a $2,312.40 grant to purchase critical sight-saving clinical supplies that will be used to recover cornea tissue from donors in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
“The Superior Health Foundation recognizes the invaluable work of Eversight in working with families to benefit others with vision issues,” said Jim LaJoie, Executive Director, Superior Health Foundation. “Eversight performs meaningful, heartfelt and engaging work. We are honored to play a role in ensuring its continued success.”
Over the past three years, Eversight has worked with the families of 185 Upper Peninsula residents who gave the gift of sight as eye donors to benefit cornea transplantation, vision research and clinical education. In 2020 alone, Eversight worked with 30 Upper Peninsula donors and their families, and provided 34 cornea tissues for transplant for Upper Peninsula residents in need of sight-restoring surgeries.
“This generous gift from the Superior Health Foundation has the potential to help individuals all across the Upper Peninsula,” said Alex Teska, Philanthropy Director, Eversight. “We are so thankful for this partnership which will help ensure that nobody goes without the precious gift of sight.”
The Superior Health Foundation’s mission is to assist with unmet healthcare needs, health education, and programs and research on preventing illness and promoting health in the Upper Peninsula. Their gift to Eversight will ensure the purchase of enough recovery supplies to honor the wishes of up to 12 Upper Peninsula donors giving the gift of sight.
