In the early days of eye banking, the Lions, historically known as “Knights of the Blind,” partnered and founded eye banks, providing leadership and philanthropic support, and included a broad network of volunteers to transport donor tissue between eye banks and hospitals. Lions were also essential in advocating for the importance of eye, organ and tissue donation, and establishing wide public acceptance of this selfless act.

Today, Eversight and local Lions Clubs retain a deep connection to achieve their mutual focus of preventing avoidable blindness and improving the quality of life for people who are blind and visually impaired. In Michigan, New Jersey and Illinois, Eversight is a State Project of the Lions. Eversight’s Board of Directors and Advisory Boards is composed of more than 51% Lions, upholding the state project standard. It is through this partnership that we are able to do the work that we do.
