ANN ARBOR, MICH, August 15, 2022 - August is National Minority Donor Awareness Month, which is a collaborative initiative of the National Multicultural Action Group (NMAG) to bring increased awareness to donation and transplantation in multicultural communities.
Each year, nearly 86,000 corneal transplants are performed to help restore sight. And while people of all ages, backgrounds and ethnicities should consider themselves potential eye, organ and tissue donors, it is true that different cultures have varying perspectives on eye donation.
To help better understand these viewpoints and in recognition of National Minority Donor Awareness Month, the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA ) is hosting a free session on August 25 featuring presentations by representatives from various racial, ethnic and cultural groups discussing acceptance of and barriers to donation.
