As another year comes to a close, we're filled with gratitude for the incredible generosity of our community. Every gift made to Eversight helps advance the gift of sight: supporting donor families, restoring vision through transplantation, driving research that offers hope for the future and so much more.
If you're considering a year-end charitable gift, there are still opportunities to make a meaningful impact while potentially receiving tax benefits before December 31. Whether you choose to give from your IRA, recommend a grant through your Donor-Advised Fund, or donate appreciated stock, your generosity helps ensure that more lives are transformed in the year ahead.
There are several ways to make a year-end charitable gift to Eversight, including a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your IRA, a grant from your Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) or a gift of stock.
If you're age 70½ or older, you may be eligible to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA to Eversight. For individuals age 73 or older, a QCD may also count towards all or part of your annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) while also reducing taxable income.
A QCD allows you to:
Support a mission you care deeply about
Potentially reduce your taxable income
Fulfill all or part of your RMD, if applicable
Make an immediate impact on restoring sight and advancing vision research
Important: To count toward the current tax year, a QCD must be completed by December 31. Because processing times vary, contact your IRA custodian well in advance of year-end.
If you've already set aside charitable dollars in a DAF, year-end is an excellent time to put those funds to work.
Because you've already received the tax deduction when contributing to your DAF, recommending a grant is a simple and meaningful way to support causes that matter most to you.
Your DAF grant can help:
Restore sight through corneal transplantation
Support donor families by honoring their loved one's gift
Advance groundbreaking research that expands what's possible in treatments for blinding eye conditions
DAF sponsors often experience increased processing times in December. We encourage you to submit your grant recommendation before year-end.
Giving securities is often a tax-efficient way to make a charitable gift. By donating stock you've held for more than one year, you may be able to:
Avoid capital gains taxes on the appreciation
Receive a charitable deduction for the fair market value of the securities, if you itemize and are eligible
Make a larger impact than you might with a cash gift
Because stock transfers can take several business days, we encourage you to initiate your transfer before year-end.
While December 31 marks the end of the tax year, many financial institutions have earlier internal deadlines for processing charitable gifts.
To help ensure your gift is completed on time:
IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions: Contact your IRA custodian before year-end and request a direct transfer to Eversight
Donor-Advised Fund grants: Submit your grant recommendation through your DAF provider as soon as possible
Stock transfers: Begin the transfer process early to allow sufficient time for your broker and Eversight to complete the transaction
If you have questions about making a year-end gift or need transfer instructions, our Philanthropy team is happy to help.
Every year, compassionate supporters like you make it possible for Eversight to honor the generosity of eye, organ and tissue donors by transforming lives through transplantation, research and education.
Whether your year-end gift comes from your IRA, DAF, stock or another form of giving, your generosity creates hope for patients waiting to see again and fuels discoveries that will shape the future of vision care.
Thank you for being part of this extraordinary mission and helping make the gift of sight possible.
