October 12, 2023 - Each year on the second Thursday of October the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) and institutions around the world celebrate World Sight Day.
World Sight Day 2023 is focused on drawing the world’s attention to the importance of eye care in the workplace. The IAPB encourages employers to make eye health initiatives standard practice and promote eye health habits that will benefit the well-being, safety and productivity of millions of employees.
With the help of global partners and members, such as Eversight, the IAPB aims to show how important it is to #LoveYourEyes at work.
Learn how to love your eyes with these 10 tips from IAPB:
- Follow the 20-20-20 rule to give your eyes screen breaks (take a 20-second break every 20 minutes from using a screen to look at something 20 feet away)
- Spend time outside
- Wear sunglasses outside
- Wear prescription glasses, if you need them
- Check your cosmetics to avoid eye infections
- Exercise regularly
- Eat a healthy diet
- Don’t smoke
- Book an eye test to detect problems before they arise
- Prioritize your eyes – you need them to last all your life
The IAPB offers two ways for companies and individuals to get involved with the World Sight Day initiative:
Pledge your sight test – Pledge to have an eye test or care for your eyes and share on social media to encourage others to do the same. The IAPB’s goal this World Sight Day is to reach 10 million eye tests pledged to raise awareness for eye care services.
Photo competition – Join the IAPB’s photo competition. This is an opportunity for amateur and professional photographers to demonstrate their skills and share with the world what they see and what it means to #LoveYourEyes. By entering the photo competition, your images are shining a light on the social and economic impact of vision loss and celebrating the tireless efforts of those who work to ensure healthy vision for all.
