Grant will purchase critical recovery supplies

The Community Foundation for McHenry County grant enables 25 Illinoisans to give the gift of sight

CHICAGO, Aug. 30, 2021 — The Community Foundation for McHenry County has awarded Eversight with a grant in the amount of $5,000 for the purchase of recovery supplies. This grant will allow up to 25 donors in McHenry County to give the generous gift of sight.

Eversight is the only eye bank providing tissue for sight-saving cornea transplants in Illinois. In 2020, Eversight worked with the families of 40 McHenry County residents who gave the gift of sight as cornea tissue donors and we provided 27 tissues for McHenry County residents to receive a sight-restoring transplant.

“We are grateful to The Community Foundation for McHenry County for providing us with the support we need to purchase critical recovery supplies,” said Marta Garczarczyk, Philanthropy Director, Eversight. “This gift will make a significant impact on the lives of McHenry County residents who wish to give the selfless gift of sight as cornea tissue donors.”

One recovery can provide two corneal eye tissues, benefiting two transplant recipients. With this generous grant from The Community Foundation for McHenry County, Eversight will be able to purchase enough supplies to recover up to 50 cornea tissues from 25 McHenry County donors, honoring their wishes to become eye donors upon their passing.

"We’re fortunate to live in an area that believes in giving back to our community. Thanks to the very generous supporters, we were able to award well-deserved grants to some organizations that are changing lives in McHenry County," said Deborah Thielen, Executive Director, The Community Foundation for McHenry County.
