ANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 5, 2020 — Eversight has received a $4,000 grant through the Michigan Gateway Community Foundation (MGCF) to support its uninterrupted clinical operations for sight restoration in Cass and Berrien counties.
The Buchanan Area Fund and the Ann Cone Fund for Niles Families and Youth provided the funding through MGCF for the grant. The funds provide much-needed support for Eversight in sustaining its services for sight-restoring cornea donation and providing eye tissues for safe transplantation.
“Like many nonprofit healthcare organizations, Eversight has been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically by elective surgery restrictions for three months that significantly reduced our income,” said Alex Teska, Director of Philanthropy, Eversight. “The gracious support that the Buchanan Area Fund and the Ann Cone Fund for Niles Families and Youth have provided us through the Michigan Gateway Community Foundation ensures we remain strong.”
“All of us at Eversight are extraordinarily grateful for their support and the privilege of carrying out this work in Cass and Berrien counties—where so many continue to support our work as Michigan’s only eye bank to benefit local patients and families.”
Serving Michigan for more than 60 years, Eversight is a 501(c)(3) community-based eye bank based in Ann Arbor that works with the families of eye tissue donors to benefit transplantation and research. Its work provides for more than 8,000 sight-restoring cornea transplants every year in Michigan and beyond.
In 2019, Eversight provided 40 sight-restoring eye tissues for Cass and Berrien County patients to receive cornea transplants. Among its important longtime local partners are the Lions Clubs in Cass and Berrien counties that raise funds and public awareness to advance Eversight’s mission and services, and encourage residents to register as eye, organ and tissue donors in the Michigan Donor Registry.
