CHICAGO, Aug. 18, 2023 – Eversight hosts Chicago’s business and civic communities October 13 to celebrate philanthropist John C. Robak as the 2023 Person of Vision and cornea surgeon Maria Soledad Cortina, MD, as the 2023 Gift of Sight Honoree at the 25th annual Gift of Sight Masquerade: Silver Spectacle.
Celebrating its silver anniversary, this annual benefit raises funds to help provide the gift of sight to patients in need. This includes aid for patients unable to afford sight-restoring corneal transplants, and humanitarian aid in developing countries where millions suffer from treatable blindness.
Proceeds benefit Eversight, a nonprofit eye bank network founded in Chicago in 1947 to meet the critical need for sight restoration through eye donation, corneal transplantation and vision research.
Eversight provided the gift of sight to more than 7,000 people across the United States and around the world in 2022, including 1,269 Illinoisans. The nonprofit also advances eye banking and vision research and works to find cures for the growing incidence of blinding eye diseases. In 2022, Eversight provided more than 1,250 eye tissues for research to scientists at leading medical and academic research institutions in Illinois.
Co-chaired by beloved philanthropists Michael Caputo and Candace Jordan, this luminous evening will begin with cocktails on Friday, Oct. 13 at the spectacular Peninsula Chicago followed by a silent auction, fine dining, music and celebration. Don your sparkle and shine attire; masquerade masks are encouraged.
RSVP by Friday, Sept. 29 to support Eversight’s mission to restore sight and prevent blindness through the healing power of donation, transplantation and research.
