ANN ARBOR, Mich., April 14, 2021 — The John E. Fetzer Institute Fund of the Kalamazoo Community Foundation has generously provided a grant for the purchase of supplies to recover eye tissue for cornea transplantation.
The John E. Fetzer Institute Fund of the Kalamazoo Community Foundation is dedicated to supporting organizations that enhance community prosperity in every corner of Kalamazoo County. As a direct result of the John E. Fetzer Institute Fund’s support, at least 30 individuals coping with failing vision or blindness in Kalamazoo County will receive sight-restoring transplants this year.
Eversight serves as Michigan’s only eye bank and restores sight for more than 6,500 people each year. Its clinical teams work 24/7 with families of donors to recover donated tissue for surgical transplantation and meet the need for area surgeons and their patients.
“Thanks to the John E. Fetzer Institute Fund’s gracious support, Eversight is better equipped to recover tissue from Kalamazoo County donors and honor the gift of sight that they and their families are willing to give,” said Alex Teska, Eversight Philanthropy Director. “We project that the current increased need for transplantable eye tissue will continue well into 2021, so this gift is especially meaningful this year.”
