It was warm and sunny for Team Eversight and others participating in the NJ Sharing Network’s 5K Celebration of Life run/walk on May 18, and a day full of meeting new people and sharing stories.
Eversight partner New Jersey Sharing Network provided nourishment and hydration throughout the day, along with tasty snacks like popcorn and cotton candy, to support the many participants who gathered on the Ocean Pathway in Ocean Grove.
Team Eversight connected with participants in the Sponsor Village in addition to having runners on the route.
Team Eversight reflected on the lives and impact of the donors we were honoring and supported the 5K teams their families created in their memory. It was a beautiful, quiet moment during an otherwise bustling and exciting event.
Team Eversight had three runners, including Eversight Philanthropy Director, Foundations & Corporations Becky Harris, who traveled from Michigan to New Jersey to support this meaningful event.
“I really enjoyed meeting John Ryan, who is on our New Jersey Advisory Board and was recently elected to the Board of Directors, and his wife Jo,” Becky said. “They're long-time supporters of the eye bank and John is a long-time Lion. We had many people stopping at our booth, telling us their stories as recipients or donor families.”
Becky also met Taryn Rockwell from Kearny Bank and her husband and sister. Kearny Bank has been giving to Eversight since 2020 and is heavily invested in supporting the communities they serve. Read more about their connection to Eversight.
Music boomed through an enormous crowd of spectators as did cheers for the runners and walkers with pompoms and homemade signs. The event was a roaring success, and everyone was in great spirits.
“I really enjoyed my time at the 5K,” Becky said. “It was a beautiful day, and the boardwalk was a very picturesque place to run.”
The 5K Celebration of Life brings together thousands of transplant recipients, donor families, living donors and dedicated volunteers and advocates.
Funds raised by event participants, teams, sponsors, and contributors will support the Sharing Network Foundation, which is committed to increasing the number of lives saved through clinical advancement, family support, public awareness and education.
