Selfless in Life/Selfless in Death

A tribute from Angie, Tony's wife

My husband Tony recently passed on 12/28 at the age of 53. He was a father of 2, a son, a brother, a friend to all, and was expecting his first grandchild on March 1. Tony had a long history of heart problems, but he was a strong/fierce man and despite his health, worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He was in the hospital awaiting his own heart transplant when he passed. Unfortunately, his poor body had just had enough and we lost him before they were able to find a heart for him. The bittersweet phone call I received several hours later from The Gift Of Hope surprised me. As sick as he was, could someone actually be helped by this beautiful man of mine? Of course, my children & I agreed to the donation. If Tony was willing to accept a heart from someone to save his own life, then he would absolutely do the same for another. On Saturday, I received the letter I had been hoping for. A very lucky person received a cornea transplant and gained the gift of sight from Tony’s corneas. My heart is overflowing with joy & I wish the recipient and their family a lifetime of beautiful memories.
