CHICAGO, Ill., Feb. 9, 2021 — The physicians of VisionPoint Eye Center in Bloomington, Ill. have provided a $3,000 philanthropic gift to support and help advance Eversight’s work to restore sight and prevent blindness through the healing power of donation, transplantation and research.
Serving as Illinois’ only eye bank, Eversight teams work 24/7 to respond and carry out the wishes of individuals and their families to donate eye tissue for sight-restoring transplantation, as well as research unlocking new treatments and cures for blindness.
A single eye tissue donor can provide two corneal tissues to restore vision and greater independence for two transplant recipients. In some cases, scleral eye tissue may be donated and recovered to benefit additional patients in need of prosthetic eye surgery or glaucoma shunt repairs.
VisionPoint Eye Center—based in Bloomington with offices in Champaign and Pontiac—provides routine and specialized services including comprehensive eye health exams, LASIK, cataract surgery, treatment for eye diseases, contact lens fittings and eyewear.
“We recognize and thank the ophthalmologists, optometrists and staff of VisionPoint Eye Center Foundation not only for their ongoing work with us to restore sight to patients through cornea transplantation—but also for their thoughtful commitment to our mission through this gift,” said Marta Garczarczyk, Eversight Philanthropy Director.
