Stephen J. Vlassis
The River Runs Swiftly
As the river runs swiftly
And winds toward the falls
We wait for our Maker
Whomever He calls
On that tragic night
While winding through the pines
He called out your name
I guess it’s your time
That day when they told us
Our world fell apart
For what you took with you
Was all of our heart
We miss you so badly
Our little baby boy
Now all we have left
Are memories of joy
Now when we go walking
And look to the skies
We can’t help but wonder
Who got your great eyes
There is only one wish
We’ve had from the start
That we were unable
To give someone your heart
So as I stand here
Just hoping and wishing
Someday we’ll be together
Maybe laughing or fishing
For now I’ll say goodbye
With a smile on my face
For I know you’re with God
In a beautiful place
I love you and miss you, Stephen, and always will.

Since Heaven has become your home
I sometimes feel I’m so alone
and though we now are far apart you hold a big piece of my heart.
I never knew how much I’d grieve
when it was time for you to leave,
or just how much my heart would ache
from that one fragment you would take.
God lets this tender hole remain
reminding me we’ll meet again
and one day all the pain will cease
when He restores this missing piece
He’ll turn to joy my every tear
with this picture near
it will become my simple way
to treasure our Reunion Day.
